Frequency and Category

The first row of fields represents both the overarching category and number of submissions this pay rate describes. Choose from 'any number' through to 'exactly' and specify the quantities, then select which category (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry or Visual Art) it relates to.

Manuscript Types (subcategories)

In the second row you can specify any number (or none for 'all') of the types of this category, eg. 'Flash fiction, Short stories' etc.

Publication Status

Here you select whether the pay rate applies to unpublished work, reprints, or both.

Length

Because there is no hard and fast industry standard for what constitutes a short story, Literarium does not couple the 'manuscript subcategory' to the 'Length' fields in the other row. Some markets may simple specify, 'We want short stories', in which case they may not specify a word count. This is even more true for 'Novel' length, which has a vague lower limit but no upper limit.

You can select from the Unit types that relate to the Category you chose on the first row. Fiction has words, lines and pages. Literarium converts between these in the background during searches, so that if you enter a pay rate asking for 1-3 pages, it will match work that has 350 to 1050 words (1 x 350 to 3 x 350 words).

Payment Amount

Select whether the market pays or charges, then select the type of payment, and then the quantity and value (eg. [Pay] [Contributor Copies] of [2] copies).

Payment Frequency

Select what the amount applies to. This ranges from per unit (eg. per 2 words) to per piece and per submission for flat rate payments.

Additional Notes

This is useful to describe any general conditions or additional information required, and may be mandatory depending on what payment type you've selected (eg. Negotiated)
